Resounding success for the 27th Employment Café

Over 140 job seekers attended the 27th Employment Café hosted by CDETNO on Wednesday, April 10. They had the opportunity to apply for various positions and connect with representatives from 17 companies and organizations.

This highly anticipated gathering in the NWT capital marks its return after being cancelled due to evacuations caused by wildfires in the summer of 2023.

According to representatives, connecting with potential employees is a valuable recruitment opportunity that also fosters beneficial relationships in a challenging labour market.

Numerous job seekers departed with a sense of optimism, confident that they had left a positive impression.

Senator Bernadette Clement visited CDETNO

While in Yellowknife, Senator Bernadette Clement visited CDETNO offices for an enlightening exchange. Among other things, she learned about all of our services and the challenges we face serving a bilingual population throughout the Northwest Territories.

“Ottawa is far away and people are not always aware of the realities we face,” says François Afane, executive director of CDETNO, stating that the senator took the time to listen.

He adds that following these meetings in the NWT capital, CDETNO is “counting on a butterfly effect” which would ensure that in the context of decision-making, the senator, now knowing northern realities, can take them into account.

Bernadette Clement is currently a member of the Standing Senate Committees on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, Transport and Communications, and Official Languages. She previously served on the Senate Committee on Rules, Procedures, and the Rights of Parliament.
Prior to this, was the first woman to be elected as mayor of Cornwall, Ontario, and the first Black woman to serve as a mayor in Ontario.

Employment Café is back in April 2024

CDETNO announces its Employment Café which will take place on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Diamond Plaza Building, 5204 Franklin Ave.

This free recruiting, networking, and promotional event is one of a kind in the city of Yellowknife. Throughout the years, we have attracted a diverse workforce ready to meet the needs of local businesses seeking new skills for a stronger territorial economy.

“Yellowknife does not have many opportunities for job seekers and employers to meet face-to-face. Therefore, Employment Café has become a tradition where employers can fill entry-level positions, which is one of their main challenges; they can also meet gems thinking about changing career”, says the executive director of CDETNO François Afane.

To participate, interested companies and organizations should write to In their email, they must indicate the information of the contact person(s) as well as their logo.

During the event, each participating organization will have its job offers displayed in the room, and the CDETNO team will facilitate interviews based on the profiles of visitors.

Businesses and organizations that are unable to attend the event in person can still send their offers.

All job offers will also be posted on the CDETNO website for one week after the event.

In 2023, the two Employment Café brought together 109 participants and 30 employers.
