Outdoor Day 2023

CDETNO invites you for a day of hiking and outdoor activities on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 10:30am to 7pm at Fred Henne Day Park!

The day will include activities, a hike, a picnic, outdoor activities and a group dinner. Parents are invited to join the group from 5pm for the evening.

You are a newcomer to Canada and you love nature? This is a day for you!

We recommend that you bring a bottle of water, sunscreen, insect repellent and that you wear walking shoes/sneakers.

This is a free activity for immigrant youth aged 7-14.

Conference on African and Black Community Entrepreneurship in the Northwest Territories

For the first edition of the Conference on African and Black Community Entrepreneurship in the Northwest Territories, CDÉTNO, La Chambre de Commerce Canada Mali, Black Advisory Hub, BACupNorth, Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce and NWT Chamber of Commerce are getting together to discuss the challenges and opportunities for Black entrepreneurs in Canada and Mali.

The event will take place on May 28th from 1pm to 4:30pm, at the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife and online.

Tourism Week – Foundations of Service Quality Training by SuperHost™

CDETNO’s Career Centre will host three sessions of the “Foundations of Service Quality” training by SuperHost™ :

  • In Yellowknife on April 26th and 28th – Cloudwork (5112 – 52nd Street);
  • In Behchokǫ̀ on April 27th – The venue (Council Chambers Boardroom).

This formation, considered the gold standard for customer service excellence, will be animated by Anna-Marie Rautenbach, faculty at the College of the Rockies and Hospitality Management Program Coordinator.

Tax Clinic

Once again, CDÉTNO and our partner the publishing house Présence francophone are happy to announce the reopening of the tax clinic on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

The tax declaration filed report to be submitted covers the year 2022 (from January 1st to December 31st) and is due on Monday, May 1, 2023 (April 30th being a Sunday). Any payment you might be required to make will also be due on that date.

The tax clinic is brought to you through the program CVITP.html of the Canadian Revenue Agency, and volunteering members and organizations of the community. This free service aims to help eligible persons, and specifically newcomers, fill their tax reports.

Black History Month – Creative workshop and game building

After meeting students in schools for information and discussion sessions about Black history Month, the coordinator of the Settlement Workers in Schools program offers creative workshops and children’s games creation hosted by BACupNorth.

The objective is to give young people who wish to do so a space to express their thoughts and feelings on the subject in an artistic way.

Workshops are free to attend to and will be held on Thursday, 23rd February :

  • from 1pm to 3pm for kids and teenagers from 8 to 12 ;
  • and from 3pm to 5pm for teens and young adults above 13 years old.

The workshops will take place in room 205 of the Northern United Place building in Yellowknife.

Webinar: Good Governance Practices

CDÉTNO invites you to participate in a free webinar on Tuesday, January 31 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. (MST) online via Zoom on good governance practices.

This webinar is intended for board members, managers, and executives.  

The webinar will be hosted by Jean Saint-Cyr. Since 2015, Jean has worked as a consulting lobbyist and social and cultural policy analyst. Prior to practising as a lobbyist, he was a public servant at the federal and provincial levels, and later as editor-in-chief of New Brunswick’s French-language daily newspaper, L’Acadie Nouvelle, where he wrote over 1,500 editorials.

Ciné un jour, ciné toujours

For two weeks in December, CDETNO, in partnership with WAMP / Western Arctic Moving Pictures, is hosting a film workshop for youth ages 7-13!

During four 1.5 hour sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, teenagers will have the opportunity to learn the basics of video editing, sound, and digital media in the Northwest.

CDÉTNO invites you to participate in a free webinar on Wednesday, October 26 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (MDT) online via Zoom on a good strategy for effective social media.

This webinar hosted by Vanessa Thériault, content director at DPG Communication, is intended for entrepreneurs, employees, managers and executives.

A 2015 graduate of the Université de Moncton (New Brunswick), she holds a B.A.-B. Ed. with a major in French Studies.

Since 2019, Vanessa has developed, over the years and through training, an expertise in communications management, which she performs for a variety of clients owned by the New Brunswick communications and marketing firm DPG Communication. She also does a lot of writing in French editing daily, including web content and social media posts.

Employment Café 24e edition & Networking Evening

The 24th Edition of the Employment Café will be held on November 2nd, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

We expect many companies and institutions in attendance recruiting for open positions. Typically, the Employment café attracts between 70 and 120 job seekers and is one of the main opportunities to meet face to face with potential candidates in Yellowknife.

Considering that your company has been advertising for several positions recently, this represents a good opportunity to meet and recruit. 

Participation is free.

This 24th edition will be held in person.
