Circular Economy

CDETNO recognizes that minimizing economic leakage creates greater diversity and prosperity. Thus, it is leading the pilot of a new network of NWT organizations, called Circular Economy North, to increase collaboration among local businesses and accelerate circular economy activities.

The purpose of the Circular Economy North is to create an initial version of a label so that organizations, business owners, and consumers can be more aware of the sustainability and local impact of the products they retail and purchase.

This means that participants would track and share things like the number of local materials sourced, jobs created, partnerships with Indigenous businesses, and more, signaling our commitment to environmental, social, and local economic impact and, ultimately, a more self-sufficient Northwest Territories.

There is no cost to participate in the pilot (until the end of 2023); however, members will need to demonstrate a commitment to advancing four indicators of circularity. In return, here are the benefits that members will have access to for free:

  1. Exposure
  2. Learning
  3. Networking
  4. CDETNO’s membership (for businesses that are members of the Northern Circular Economy, please contact us to join the CDETNO membership for free by email: environnement@cdetno.com)
  5. Label support

Throughout your membership, we will support you in improving four Nordic circularity indicators which are:

Prioritizing local partnerships

Recognizing Indigenous leadership

Increasing community involvement

Transitioning to zero waste
