Teaching students how to create and manage a major event

Members of the CDÉTNO team were at École Alain-Saint-Cyr on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, as part of the “Budding Entrepreneurs” project for an information session on financial literacy with the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). During the course, students in grades 10, 11, and 12 were introduced to the concepts of risk and return on investment while having fun. This project aims to provide practical business management experience to young people while promoting teamwork and positive community impact.

After École Alain-Saint-Cyr in Yellowknife, CDETNO team travelled to Hay River to provide two information sessions to students at École Boréale on December 9 and 10. Aside from the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) staff delivering financial literacy lessons, the city hall and courthouse hosted a session on registering a business and obtaining a business license.

These lessons provide students in grades 10 to 12 with the necessary resources for creating and managing major events. With hands-on experience in business management, they emphasize teamwork and have a positive impact on the community. It is expected that students, from different grade levels, will organize small virtual businesses that will be evaluated according to their creativity, commitment, and ability to obtain a return on investment. Participants in the project develop skills in communication, financial management, creativity, as well as self-confidence and perseverance.

In the months to come, the sessions will continue.
