Home Base Yellowknife is dedicated to supporting at-risk youth. All youth deserve access to safe and supportive housing. We maintain a culturally inclusive and safe space within the community to provide safe and supportive programs for youth in a safe, inclusive and diverse working environment. Our Programs: Emergency Overnight Shelter, Dorms, Housing Program and the Youth Centre.
Casual Youth Support Worker
Home Base is seeking experienced, dynamic and motivated individuals to fill within our Dormitory Program. Youth Support Workers are employed throughout all 4 of our programs as needed.

Responsibilities
● Supervision of youth across 8-10hr shifts (days, evenings, nights)
● Support youth to be involved in achieving the goals set out in their service plan
● Daily interaction with youth in residence
● Assist youth to attend school/tutor/work, scheduled appointments, court, outside programming as and when needed on shift
● Engage youth to participate in cultural, educational, mental health & addictions, personal coaching, recreational and social programming provided by specialized HBYK staff
● Risk, Conflict and Crisis Management
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
● Degree or Diploma, including but not limited to:
○ Youth Work, Social Work, Criminology, Education, Recreation (asset)
● Minimum of 2 years work experience
○ In a similar role/environment (asset)
● Relevant lived experience will be assessed on an individual basis
TRANSFERABLE SKILLS
● Punctual and reliable (required)
● Understanding of youth experiencing addictions, discrimination, homelessness, mental health problems, trauma, and neurodivergent behaviours (asset)
● Emotional intelligence including self-awareness, self-regulation, intrinsic motivation empathy, social skills
● Communication skills including written, verbal, presentation, active listening, non-verbal, feedback, respect, confidence, clarity, honesty, friendly
● Fluent in the use of Google Suite programming
● Experience writing case notes
● Collaborate well with others
Prerequisites
● Yellowknife resident, this is an on-site position (required)
● Fluency in English (comprehension, verbal & written) (required)
● Minimum 19 years of age (required)
● Full Class 5 license + minimum of 1 year experience as a fully licensed driver
● Clear Driver’s Abstract
● Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector (required)
● Child and Family Services Check (as necessary)
● Current Work VISA Status
