Description
Five Snares Fishing Company is an independent commercial fishing business based on Great Slave Lake, in the Northwest Territories.
We are looking for a fisherman.
The fisherman will be responsible for setting up the nets, retrieve the catch from the nets, filleting the fish, smocking, drying and/or candying the fish, packaging and bringing the fish to Yellowknife. The fisherman will also have to carry maintenance on the camp and the equipment and cutting his own firewood. The fishing is done all year long, a very good physical fitness is required. The fisherman will live in the camp on a small island, he will have his own cabin. The camp is very remote, 250 km away from Yellowknife.
There is no running water, water has to be collected from the lake. Electricity is supplied by a generator. There are four dogs in the camp, they will need to be feed and cleaned daily.
The candidate will need to have a minimum of one year of experience in commercial fishing and know how to fillet fish efficiently. He also must have a strong experience in living remotely, know how to use a chainsaw, operate a small outboard motorboat and a snowmobile. He also must have good carpentry skills. Bilingual (English and French) candidates will be preferred.
The fisherman is expected to work 40 hrs/week, including some weekends. The wage is $17/hr plus percentage of the catch.
