Camp Cook Job Description
Camp Connections is a cultural and adventure based summer camp program open to children and youth involved with social services (between the ages of 7-18) from across the NWT. Camp Connections has been an ongoing project of the Foster Family Coalition of the NWT since 2003.
The Camp Cook is responsible for all meals and snacks at Camp Connections.
Dates: June 5, 2023 - August 15, 2023
Pre Camp:
➔ Prepare a healthy and diverse food menu.
➔ Anticipate camper involvement in preparation and cooking, or plan food based activity.
➔ Place food orders accurately and on time to the Camp Director.
During Camp: Kitchen Specific & General
➔ Ensures orders are delivered/picked up in a timely manner.
➔ Manage kitchen inventory.
➔ Ensure measles are prepared on time and that there is always extra food (a little bit anyways, no kids should leave the cookhouse hungry).
➔ Make sure snacks are prepared on time every morning, afternoon, and evening (routine is so important!)
➔ Keep the water tank filled, and ensure there is purified water for campers at all times.
➔ Monitor propane supply.
➔ Ensure camp kitchen is kept orderly and as safe as possible.
➔ Be involved in Camp activities and special events.
➔ Provide support for the Camp Director.
➔ Work with staff to ensure the camp cookhouse is a quiet and orderly place.
➔ Make sure campfires are started, or prepped to be started for evening activities.
➔ Provide one on one support to campers in need as required.
Qualifications:
➔ Current First Aid and CPR certification.
➔ Knowledge and understanding of Northern cultures.
➔ Experience working with children with various needs.
➔ Excellent communication skills and ability to motivate and work with others.
➔ Interest and ability in cooking nutritious meals in a rustic camp environment.
Compensation: $1,120.00/week
