Transportation in the NWT

The Fort Providence Ferry
(from route 1, 3, 104)
.Take the time of year into consideration. The ferry is free and runs daily from mid-May to December, from 6 a.m. to midnight. During the winter, an ice bridge is used to cross the river. Traffic is stopped for 2 or 3 weeks when the ice breaks up.
For more information on the ferry, visit the NWT government
or call this toll-free number: 1-800-661-0750

Coming by Bus
Coming to the NWT is expensive. However, travelling by bus is an interesting alternative. Not only does it save several hundred dollars in travel costs, but it also allows passengers to enjoy the beautiful landscape along the way. Only Greyhound serves the northern region, and an average of one bus per day travels from Edmonton to Yellowknife. Mail service is also offered and is much cheaper than air mail.
